Spurs legend Cliff Jones inducted to the National Football Hall of Fame

It was announced on Tuesday evening that Spurs legend Cliff Jones is among 5 inductees to the  National Football Hall of Fame for 2013. The awards ceremony will take place on the 25th September 2013 at the National Football Museum, buy information pills Manchester. We asked Cliff his thoughts when he was told of his induction.

” I was delighted  when I received the letter about my inclusion in this years Hall of Fame. It is an honour to be recognised for my football achievements and it will be a proud occasion for myself and my family at the awards dinner in September.  Also the fact that I have been chosen by my fellow professionals on the judging panel makes the award extra special. I was privileged to play football for a living and was fortunate to have played for Spurs during their most successful period the 1960s, winning the League title, the European Cup Winners Cup and 3 FA Cups. I was also proud to represent my country Wales – 59 times and  especially in 1958 when we reached the quarter final of the  World Cup, narrowly beaten by Brazil 1-0, the goal being scored by a 17 year old … Pele.

I was also privileged to have played under one of the best club managers of all time, Bill Nicholson, who was ahead of his time in his coaching and thinking. One of the things  Bill  used to say has always stuck with me and I think it still applies today. He said the most important people at the football club were not the directors, not the players, not the management, but the supporters and we were always to be mindful of that. Football is a great game that has been passed down through the generations.Today I meet supporters who are too young to have seen me play but they tell me I was their father or grandfathers favourite player, some of who have passed away, but their spirit for football and for Spurs lives on and it is good to chat about games I have played in that their relative would have attended.

I thank the judging panel once again for my inclusion in the Hall of Fame and look forward to meeting my fellow inductees at the awards dinner in September”
